With several regulars missing, Ashford had to promote three youngsters for the vital trip to second-placed Holmesdale. With the regular captaincy team of Darran Wood and Neil Tegg unavailable through work commitments and injury, Ben Ealham took charge and soon found himself opening the batting as Ashford were asked to bat first. They could not have got off to a worse start with Chris Senior and James Anthony both out inside the first four overs, but Ealham (23) and Assan Raza (27) then steadied the ship and were just starting to get on top when they both fell in quick succession with the score on 68. Alastair Neale and Tony Rolfe then put together an excellent partnership before Neale was bowled for a very useful 31. Rolfe then took charge and batted magnificently, scything the ball to all parts of the ground, his innings being all the more impressive as he took a horrendous blow to the head from a wayward throw. He received good support from Ben Spencer (19) and was eventually bowled for an invaluable 70 which enabled Ashford to post a very competitive 228.

Holmesdale started very confidently, racing to 50 without any dramas, however the introduction of skipper Ben Ealham and spinner Alastair Neale induced three very poor shots from the experienced Holmesdale top order, and from a position of strength they suddenly found themselves 68-3. A steady partnership then took the score to 132 before again the Holmsdale batsmen perished trying to hit over the top with Ben Spencer the successful bowler. Mohsin Raza continually bowled a good line and wickets fell in quick succession and at 144-9 with six overs remaining an Ashford victory looked likely but the last two Holmesdale youngsters dug in well to hold on for a draw. With eight players aged 20 or under this was a first class performance which leapfrogs Ashford over Holmesdale into second place.
