Ashford 2nd's got back to winning ways with an emphatic victory over BOCA at the weekend. The day started badly for BOCA when they were late arriving so they forfeited the toss and were promptly inserted by Ashford skipper Darran Wood. Opening bowlers Ben Ealham and Mohsin Raza proved unplayable early on and it was no surprise that after ten overs BOCA were 9 for 2 with Raza grabbing both wickets. BOCA then staged a recovery and were well placed at 81 for 3 before stalwart Colin Paine produced a devastating spell claiming 5-24 which included a great stumping from Simon Berry. With Ben Ealham also deservedly picking a couple of wickets BOCA collapsed to 90 all out in less than 40 overs.

Captain Darran Wood led from the front and soon took the attack to the BOCA bowlers being particularly severe on anything short. He received good support from the ever improving Assan Raza and these two made good progress until Raza unluckily played on for 15. With the score on 69 Wood miscued to mid wicket and was caught for a match-winning 41. James Anthony (16 not out) and Ben Ealham (10 not out) then saw Ashford home without any further problems, with Australian Anthony looking in very good touch. The win moves Ashford back up into third place and they have a key match this weekend when they visit second placed Holmesdale.

Ashford won the toss in this local derby and chose to bat. Openers Liam Tegg and Assan Raza were soon into their stride, with Tegg dispatching the ball to all parts of the ground. Raza was more circumspect but still played some drives excellent drives and it was no surprise when their partnership passed the 100 mark. Tegg was then caught on the boundary for 77 and with Raza falling for 58 it was left to the middle order to continue the momentum with Simon Taylor making a quickfire 37. Phil May, Dean Clark and Andy Smith all made useful contributions leaving skipper Tegg to declare at 233-8 at tea. Kennington stalwart Peter Grant was clearly the pick of the bowlers with his off spin taking 7 for 78.

Kennington started brightly with William Spain and Rob Isles scoring rapidly until Isles was bowled by Nigel Crannis. Young Alex Boatfield then removed Grant Langfield and with Simon Taylor removing Spain, Seb Arnold and Tim Branchett in quick succession Ashford gained control. However a stubborn partnership between Chris Clover and Chris Watts was only broken by a terrific short leg catch from Dean Clark off the bowling of Liam Tegg. When Tegg eventually had the ever patient Watts caught behind it was left to the last wicket of James Isles and Peter Grant to attempt to hold out for a draw. With just three balls remaining Simon Taylor had Grant LBW to secure a well deserved victory for Ashford.
