vs Old Wilsonians (Home) - Kent League

Ashford invited Old Wilsonians to bat first and soon achieved the early breakthrough with opening bowler Colin Paine removing Tyler for 4. Despite some tight bowling by both Paine and Ben Ealham, Old Wilsonians moved on to 63 before a run out cost them their second wicket. Mo Raza and Chris Senior then came into the attack, but although they bowled quite accurately opener Neil Treacher continued to knock the ball around on the good Ball Lane wicket. Leg spinner Dean Clark was then given a try, but again despite bowling a good length could not secure the vital breakthrough. It took the return of Paine to grab the next wicket bowling Morley for 25 and with Ealham also back and quickly clean bowling the next two batsmen, Ashford looked to be taking the initiative. However Treacher held firm and with assistance from Chris Goodman plus some indifferent Ashford fielding, Old Wilsonians closed on 214-5 with opener Treacher remaining unbeaten on 96.

Ashford made a steady start with the experienced pairing of Darran Wood and Neil Tegg before Tegg was caught at cover with the score on 38. With Assan Raza falling quickly for 4 it was left to Wood and "Aussie" James Anthony to steady proceedings. Just when Anthony was starting to get going he was caught for 10 and Tony Rolfe then joined skipper Wood, these two batted sensibly for the next ten overs. Wood was in fine form and took the attack to the Wilsonian bowlers, not being afraid to hit "over the top", but when he was caught for a superb 70 with the score on 123 Ashford were in a spot of trouble. Chris Senior then came to the rescue and in the next six overs blasted a quick fire 37 which, although turning the game Ashford's way, still left some work to do. Rolfe was then caught for a patient 19 and with three wickets falling in quick succession Ashford found themselves 204-9 with three overs remaining. However some excellent sensible batting from Ben Ealham 18 not out and Mohsin Raza 9 not out saw Ashford home with five balls to spare.
