Yorkshire Wrath !
Graham Borwell wishes members to know that he is in good health and wishes Ashford Cricket Club a successful season. He has seen the new website and congratulates the Club on producing such an integrated shop window.

He has received the new fixture card at his home in Avignon and wonders why he is no longer a Life Vice-President. Or, so it appears. That appointment is given for extraordinary service to the club, above and beyond mustering runs, taking wickets, and holding catches. It is an appointment for lifetime. Graham was a true clubman in every sense, both on and off the field.

Would someone be kind enough to restore his name to the Life Vice-Presidents list in next year's fixture card.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Bill Day, on behalf of Graham Borwell

Graham Borwell captained one of the best Sunday sides that Ashford ever put out. He knew his players and what their potential was, and I for one thought it the happiest period in Ashford's history. We had a good mix of senior and junior players and we lost very few games. The social side was absolutely great, with many a night spent in the Old Barrow Hill Bar 'till very late telling stories or being regaled by John Puxley. I should like to send my best wishes to Graham and his family and thank him for the great times we had as a side.

In the fixture card I have for this year, Graham is still listed as a Life Vice President of the Club (and rightly so).

Sorry, the information I was given for the "Honorary" Officials web page was missing Graham's name. I have now added it.

I would like to thank the club for restoring me to the land of the living . I was very pleased and proud to have been asked in the first place and was rather upset when having found this excellent site that I had been airbrushed from the history of Ashford CC .I realise that I m not much use to you here in Avignon , but the only thing I miss about England is walking into the club.Yes we had some great times in 70s and 80s as I m sure you are now .I remember we worked hard at getting rid of the ghost of Nelson and create our time at the club . In retrospect that was wrong - the history of the club and all it s characters should never be forgotten . Move on yes but learn one or two things from the past.
Who could balance a half pint on his head lie on the floor and stand up again singing The Muffin Man- Try it .Who was cautioned by the police for speeding one Tuesday night after nets - on his bike ! Who was desperate to bowl at Benson because he just knew he could get him out ? One over later after one or two 6s and three or four 4s he was rested and wished to know why because every ball that he bowled had been a good one . Who bet that he could hit a 6 sittng down and did ?
Enough of this - there are many more . I wish you all a great season - get promoted !Graham - I smelt smell coming up from t oven .Aye it were Hovice
