Subject : 'Rammy' Ramshaw

I notice that a small article has appeared on the past players section of this website regarding Darren Ramshaw.
I played the full season with Rammy and I am sure the season he played for us was at Barrow Hill and not Ball Lane as stated (Circa 1986 - we didn't move to Ball Lane until 2/3 seasons later). This was the year we won the Kent Cup (then called the Wiltshire Cup, and Darrens gum chewing face adorns the winning team photo in the clubhouse.
Rammy was a quality player and a top lad, one of the best batsmen I've seen. He made it all look too easy. I believe he held the record score at one of the Australian test grounds during the early 1990's and his name appears, to that effect, on that grounds' honours board.

Julian, he played at Barrow Hill, not Ball Lane. He was one of the best players to play for Ashford and was one of the crop of very good players to have turned out for Ashford in the 70's and 80's, the others being Geoff Oman, Laurence Seeff and Paddy Steinhobel. Having such good players in the side certainly brought the best out of our home grown players. Other players that should get a mention are Ossie Gooding, a very fast bowler, Kim Best, an eccentric wicket keeper and opera singer, Ken Land, Peter Rolls. All these people helped our quest to the league titles both 1st and 2nd XI. Kent 2nd XI players such as Peter Stooks and Stuart Waterton all helped to bring on our young players. It is a History we should not forget.
