Subject : Ashford 'Legend's' games - Wed 15th Aug

The Wednesday of Cricket week sees the revival of the popular 'Legends's' side. This is a team made up of players (past and present) who played for the successful Ashford sides in the 60's, 70's and 80's.
Current availibility has been confirmed from such former Ashford stars as Brian Hamley, Derryl Eames, James Creed, Greame Lovedale, Mark Baker and David Dales.
If any former players are keen to take part in this game, then please respond to this email with contact details. Derryl 'Shag' Eames will be skipper on the day and Sue and Alan Ealham will be spectating.Even The Pro is coming up from darkest Dorset, although I doubt if he'll play as it took him 3 months to recover from the match in 2005!!!

I've had a thought that might generate some drama or despair in the Legends Match. Why don't we have FIVE GOLDEN/CHAMPAGNE MOMENTS during the match, involving those too old and crippled to play in the full game.

For example, Mike Day and Bill Day go head to head. Mike bowls me one over; I bowl him one over. Using fielders already on the field. An adjudicator gauges winner.

Mike Ashby v Brian Hamley; Julian Glenister v Michael Jones......roll back the clock for five or six little cameos to be interspersed with the match in progress - using fielders already on the field.

Thought it might add a little fizz to the party.

Not a bad idea Bill, but it's enough hard work just finding 11 players of a certain vintage willing to dust off the whites! Once I've got the team together and know who is turning up to watch, We can have a look at your proposal. I'm sure The Pro would be willing to face 6 of your magical leg breaks.........

I would relish the chance to face Bil's leg breaks but I fear for the Arthur Henton clock if I used Julians bat

Well Bill and Mike - you'd better bring your gear on the day. I can feel a bit of tea time entertainment coming on..........

It is with much regret that due to unforseen circumstances I will be unable to get up to Ashford for the Legends Game. This is very upsetting as it is a day I look forward to and to renew verbal asides and stories with all my old team members has become a highlight of the year.I will however have you all in my thoughts and I hope all will enjoy the day.Paticularly Bill Day as I am sure he was in the nets every day polishing up his Bowling or at the MCC indoor School.
Regards to all
