Subject : Kanga back in town !

John 'Kanga' Pym is planning to returned to Ashford on the weekend of July 21-22. At some stage that weekend he has promised to be at Ball Lane and would love to meet old friends.

Kanga, who comes from NSW, was playing Sydney grade cricket when he came to Ashford in the early 1970s. A fine player in his day, he has played against some of Australia's fastest ever bowlers, including Jeff Thomson, who formed a deadly fast bowling partnership with the legendary Dennis Lillee in that period of Australian cricket.

Kanga returned to Ashford for a couple of seasons recently. The work he carried out, coaching youngsters, encouraging more senior players, and by simply being there at Ball Lane, contributed as much as anyone to the revival of club fortunes at a particularly difficult time in its history.

We owe Kanga a huge debt of gratitude - even if he is an Aussie!
