Subject : Why be faceless?

Our message board has been one of the most successful aspects of this website. Frank and fearless. Members expressing their opinions, without recrimination. Great stuff, long may it continue.
That said, why am I feeling a quiet unease when reading comments pinned to our message board by anonymous subscribers? Say it, and say who you are, I say.

Bill - I couldn't agree with you more. I think the website is fantastic and is clearly being read by a large number of people which is brilliant. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and some will be more controversial than others which is what debate is all about. However like you I am becoming increasingly concerned and frustrated by the recent trend of people leaving messages without, either disclosing who they are or using an unknown name. Please would Pedant and Pedant 2 plus the "Life Long Ashford Player" make themselves known.

Put the man under a charge, if he doesn't reveal himself..... A spell in Dartmoor Prison....or an afternoon in the scorebox with Pat Lacey will do the trick.... On the Stacians forum we all seem to go under our nicknames, but we all now who each other are anyway....... WILL THE REAL LIFE LONG PLAYER STEP FORWARD NOW.

In the true spirit of 'Spactacus', "I am Pedant".
Bloody hell, there are a myriad of issues to resolve for the merger, a potental additional merger with the hockey club and you want to force people to list their names. Free and open debate is achieved by allowing the noisy and quieter elements. If someone chooses to remain anon. is that really an issue?
I could quite easily type a message under another name and then where would the system be?

If messages posted are insulting, degrading or personal at another member, then I would be concerned. But if a point of view is merely being put forward, whatever.

Statto indicated that members nicknames are used on the site in the forums, however, not all members contribute, is this because anominity is not guaranteed? I'd rather see a constructive comment, than a blank space.
